OpenOffice.org V3 Beta

OpenOffice.org V3 BetaI have been using OpenOffice.org suite since the StarOffice days on my old Mandrake Linux box. Alas, now I am using Windows(tm) Vista on my new machine and have basicly dropped Linux as my primary desktop OS. I love Linux for my server software, however it just does not do it for me as a desktop OS…but that is a tale for another day.

At current, I am evaluating the OpenOffice.org 3 Beta suite and it seems a bit easier on the eyes than the previous versions.  Just to add new icons is rather lame for a new version, luckily the entire system seems to be a bit more usable and flows better than it used to.

With the addition of the VBScript for macros and the added row count on Calc, I think that they’ve done a nice job. They’ve updated a lot and IMHO it is more than worth the time to download to mess with. OpenOffice.org has always been a good tool for those who cannot afford (or do not want to use) MS Office or the other more expensive office suites.  As for basic functionality for most people, along with the community site that adds templates and other content to the suite, it certainly does fit the bill.
